GRADUATE
STUDENT AWARDS
OUTSTANDING
ADVANCED GRADUATE STUDENT AWARD: Consists of $500 and a
certificate to honor the outstanding advanced graduate student (who is
in his/her last year of the Ph.D. program) in each of the programs.
This award is based on excellence in research as evidenced by
publications in refereed journals and coursework demonstrated by GPA.
Where applicable, teaching and service will also be taken into
account. (Research advisors should nominate the student to the
executive committee for selection.)

OUTSTANDING
GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANT AWARD: Consists of $300 and
a certificate to honor the outstanding performance in conducting
laboratory sessions. The eligible students should have completed the
relevant teaching course (6300) and should have previously taught at
least 4 laboratory sessions. In the year of the award, the student
should have conducted at least 3 laboratory sessions. The award is
based on excellence in teaching as evidenced by the performance in
relevant courses, and the laboratory teaching, student comments and
any other relevant criteria. In general, one Astronomy and one Physics
award will be given in an year.
