Abstract:

The third Jefferson Lab experiment to measure the proton's elastic form factor ratio $G_E/G_M$ using polarization observables just started taking data in Hall C. Pushing to higher $Q^2$, this effort also is meant to establish some systematic independence from the previous two measurements conducted in Hall A. The key equipment, a proton polarimeter, had to be newly constructed with significant restrictions on space and high expectations for efficiency and accuracy. The schedule delays that postponed the experiment until this fall gave us the opportunity to thoroughly examine the detector before the experiment and to develop the tools to analyze the data.
