MACROSCOPIC RESPONSE OF COMPOSITE MEDIA: THEORY AND APPLICATIONS

    A brief survey is given of the field and of the special characteristics of theoretical research in it.
    Some results are described that were first obtained from such studies. These include improved bounds for macroscopic
moduli, possibility of obtaining enhanced thermoelectric response, intrinsic optical bistability, and a critical point in the strong field magnetoresistance of a composite medium.
