Tomography with Diffusing Photons: A New Medical Imaging Modality

There is considerable interest in the development of optical methods for
medical imaging. It is anticipated that such methods would provide fundamentally
new diagnostic capabilities while complementing existing imaging modalities.
The basic physical problem consists of reconstructing the optical properties
of a highly-scattering medium probed by diffusive light. This talk will
review recent work on reconstruction algorithms, experiments in model systems,
and clinical tests of optical mammography.
