Information for Computer Science Majors

 

        Required physics courses for CSc majors:

          1. Phys2211K, Principles of Physics I (4 credit hours)

                             offered every Fall and Spring semester but not during Summer

                             Prerequisite: Math2211,

                             Suggested Corequisite: Math2212

          2. Phys2212K, Principles of Physics II (4 credit hours)

                             offered every Fall and Spring semester but not during Summer

                             Prerequisite: Phys2211K, Math2212                    

          3. Phys3500, Electronics (3 credit hours)

                             Offered every Spring semester (previously offered Fall and Spring)

                             Prerequisite: Phys2212                         

          4. One of the following options:

                   a. Phys3401, Modern Physics I (4 credit hours)

                             Offered every Fall semester

                             Prerequisite: Phys2212                         

                   b. Phys4700, Electricity & Magnetism (4 credit hours)

                             Offered every Fall semester

                             Prerequisite: Phys2212 and Math2215                           

                   c. Phys3800, Optics (3 credit hours)

                             Offered every Spring semester

                             Prerequisite: Phys2212                         

                                      and either

                       Phys4030, Digital Instrumentation Lab (1 credit hour), or

                       Phys4050, Physical Computations Lab (1 credit hour)

                             One of these two labs is offered each Fall semesters

                             Prerequisite: consent of instructor (Dr. Xiaochun He)

 

You cannot entirely fulfill requirement 4 during the Spring semester. 

Do not wait until your last semester to fulfill this requirement.

Also note that there is limited space in Phys4030 and Phys4050 labs.

 

Physics courses above 3000 typically alternate between day and evening

except Phys3500 which is always an evening class.
